Hawa Mahal Jaipur Palace

from $75.00

The Hawa Mahal, also known as the "Palace of the Winds," is an architectural marvel located in the heart of Jaipur, India. Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, this five-story palace is adorned with intricate latticework and 953 small windows, known as jharokhas. These windows were designed to allow the women of the royal household to observe everyday life and festivals on the street below, while remaining unseen themselves. The Hawa Mahal is a perfect blend of Rajput and Islamic architectural styles, and is a testament to the skill and artistry of the builders of the time. Photo by Dustin Ellison.
